Dos Elstun Bridge Tournament Benefits Local Charities

The winners of the Nosara Bridge Club’s Third Annual Dos Elstun Memorial Bridge Tournament contributed their prize money, totaling $900, to local charities.

Mike and Alice Olson, who hosted the tournament in their Guiones home on January 28, won the $500 first place prize. They divided their winnings equally between two construction projects: the Surfing Nosara Foundation’s construction of a lunchroom for Serapio Lopez School in Nosara and the Nosara Animal Welfare Association which is remodeling a building near Super Nosara that will house a not-for-profit veterinary clinic.

Liz Maxwell and Greg Smith won the $250 second place prize. Half their prize money went to Biblioteca David Kitson. The remaining $125 will be used to purchase classroom supplies for Serapio Lopez School.

Don Savage and Diane Kennedy took third place. They contributed $150 to Nosara Wildlife for the rescue and care of the local monkey population.

The annual tournament honors long time Nosara resident Dos Elstun who was an avid bridge player and a generous contributor to local organizations. Throughout the year, individuals contribute lunch for the Club’s regular duplicate bridge games. The players pay for lunch and the money goes into the prize pool for the tournament held each January.
